Knowledge Management Attorney - Private Funds

The New York office of Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP is seeking to hire an experienced private funds attorney to develop and maintain the knowledge strategy for the Private Funds practice group and implement projects to meet the group’s knowledge management and development needs.  The Private Funds Group KM Attorney’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following; create, develop, and maintain the practice group’s collection of precedents and research materials; monitoring developments in the legal and business environment in order to keep the practice group and clients up-to-date and identify opportunities for practice and business development; manage database of fund terms and trends; manage knowledge-related awareness and training initiatives within practice group; seek out and test technology solutions for client work and knowledge management;  work with practice group members and related business support functions to support business development opportunities. The ideal candidate will have a JD or LL.M. or equivalent, at least 5-8 years of experience, and is a self-starter.

Pro Bono Attorney

The New York Office of Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP seeks to hire a Pro Bono Attorney.  Working as part of the firm’s dedicated Pro Bono team, including the Director of Pro Bono – U.S., the Pro Bono Immigration Attorney and other pro bono specialists, the Pro Bono Attorney will assist in the overall management and development of the firm’s pro bono program.  Additionally, the Pro Bono Attorney will support the development of the firm’s litigation-focused pro bono projects, casework and knowledge management resources.  The individual will work closely with relevant stakeholders internally and externally to manage existing pro bono litigation initiatives and launch new initiatives that build on the core strengths of the firm in the New York and D.C. offices, bring those initiatives to successful execution, and provide support and guidance to volunteer attorneys and partner supervisors along the way. 

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of litigation experience in a law firm and/or legal services organization (and preferably both), with strong and demonstrated experience in litigation (unrelated to immigration work) that is germane to the firm’s pro bono practice. Expertise/experience in racial justice work a plus.  Applicants must demonstrate a willingness to engage with clients, volunteer attorneys and staff and pro bono partners with compassion while advancing cases and causes that improve quality of life, pursue individual and collective justice and result in impactful change.  A J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school admission to the New York Bar is required.

Job Responsibilities: Estate and trust administration and basic estate planning - including the preparation of probate and administration proceeding papers, estate administration including  collection and valuation of assets, payment of debts and bequests, preparation and filing of federal and state estate tax returns, preparation of informal estate and trust accountings, administration of ongoing trusts, including distribution requests, income tax payments, review of Form 1041’s prepared by outside accountants, preparation of receipt and release agreements, fiduciary appointments and tax planning, preparation of basic estate planning documents such as wills and trusts.  As the candidate’s experience grows the responsibilities of the job will also expand.

Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate should have 5 or more years of trusts and estates experience and be comfortable with using math and excel. Must have a  J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and be admitted to the New York Bar.
